This week has quite a weak crop of new films releasing across the Central Illinois area. Low critic opinion abounds when it comes to the top two movies this week: Pompeii 3D (33% on Rotten Tomatoes) and 3 Days to Kill (23%). Luckily, it's Oscar season so theaters have brought back the top films of 2013 and we can see Gravity 3D for the 10th time if we aren't out enjoying the above freezing weather for a change.
Bringing up the rear are last week's top movie, About Last Night and the unstoppable The LEGO Movie. So, get to the theaters this weekend

Happy Valentine's Day Central Illinois! We've got some great movies releasing this week in the spirit of the holiday. If you like comedy with your romance, go see the number one movie of the week, About Last Night. If you like a little supernatural mixed with eternal love check out number two, Winter's Tale starring Colin Farrell. If you want a love story for the world we live in today, check out Endless Love.

Even if you're not in the mood for something romantic, you can see the reboot of RoboCop starring Samuel Jackson. If action isn't your thing, The LEGO Movie, last week's number one pick, is still in theaters everywhere.

Springfield has quite a few choices when it comes to theaters. From the AMC 8 on Dirksen to the AMC 8 on Lindbergh to the AMC 12 on Mercantile, AMC will probably be getting your ticket fare.
The theater is high on amenities. The stadium seating is comfortable and the seat backs are very tall. Picture quality is great and the impressive sound systems rival those of any theater in the area. Also, the location is easily accessible albeit a little far for people living on east side of town.
The worst part about catching a movie at this AMC 12 is definitely the price. If you don't make an early showing, you're likely to be spending more than $10 per ticket. Whether or not this is worth it depends largely on the movie, so choose your visits wisely if price is an issue.
Address:
3141 Mercantile Drive
Springfield, IL 62702
Prices:
$6.00 All Ages before noon
$10.75 Adults and Seniors after noon
$8.00 Children after noon

Kevin Hart has been on a roll. From his 2013 standup film, Let Me Explain to Ride Along which was seemingly just released, the guy is in hit after hit. This trend continues with About Last Night which is releasing nationwide on Valentine's day.
About Last Night is a story about two new couples, Kevin Hart with Regina Hall and Michael Ealy with Joy Bryant, trying to make it in serious relationships. All of the characters are amazingly likable and keep the film enjoyable. The only problem with the film is that it is a bit of a formulaic romcom. Hart and Hall give performances that make up for any of the cliched scenes making for the perfect Valentine's Day date film.
About Last Night is playing now in all major Central Illinois cities (Bloomington, Champagne, Decatur, Jacksonville, Peoria, Springfield, etc.
